Remembering Ghiyath Matar and the Legacy of Syria’s Peaceful Revolution
With the support and initiative of Rahma Worldwide, and in collaboration with AA Group, KA Investment & Development Group, the Syrian Charities and Associations Network (SCAN UK), and the Syrian British Consortium, the film “Little Gandhi” was screened at Curzon Mayfair in London, marking the tenth anniversary of its original release.

The film tells the story of Ghiyath Matar, a son of Daraya and one of the prominent figures of peaceful resistance during the early years of the Syrian revolution. Alongside Yahya al-Sharbaji, he worked to mobilise Daraya’s young people and preserve the peaceful character of the movement, before both were forcibly disappeared by the Assad regime and ultimately killed under torture.

The screening was honoured by the presence of members of the Syrian community, alongside British political and human rights figures, as well as guests from the Arab community. It was followed by a discussion with the film’s director, Sam Kadi, focusing on Ghiyath Matar’s legacy, the importance of keeping alive the memory of those who lost their lives during the revolution, and the need to bring the story of Syria’s peaceful revolution to the wider public and to policymakers.

As a symbolic gesture, attendees were also presented with a small gift containing a bottle of water and a rose, recalling Ghiyath Matar’s peaceful initiatives during the early days of the Syrian revolution in the face of the Assad regime’s machinery of repression and killing.

The participation of the partner organisations reaffirmed their shared commitment to preserving Syrian memory, documenting the stories of victims, and defending the narrative of the revolution and its values of freedom, dignity and peaceful resistance.

إحياء ذكرى غياث مطر وسردية الثورة السورية السلمية
بدعم ومبادرة من مؤسسة رحمة العالمية (Rahma Worldwide) وبالتعاون مع مجموعة AA، KA للاستثمارات والتطوير، وشبكة الجمعيات والمؤسسات الخيرية السورية في المملكة المتحدة (SCAN UK)، والمجلس السوري البريطاني تم عرض فيلم «غاندي الصغير» في Curzon Mayfair بلندن، في الذكرى العاشرة لعرضه الأول.

يروي الفيلم قصة غياث مطر، ابن داريا وأحد رموز المقاومة السلمية في بدايات الثورة السورية، الذي عمل إلى جانب يحيى الشربجي على تنظيم جهود الشباب في داريا والحفاظ على سلمية الحراك، قبل أن يتم إخفاؤهما قسريا من قبل نظام الأسد ويستشهدا تحت التعذيب.

تشرّف العرض بحضور عدد من أبناء الجالية السوربة إلى جانب شخصيات سياسية و حقوقية بريطانية بالإضافة للضيوف العرب، و تبعه نقاش مع مخرج الفيلم سام القاضي حول إرث غياث مطر، وأهمية إبقاء ذاكرة شهداء الثورة حية، وإيصال قصة الثورة السورية السلمية إلى الرأي العام وصنّاع القرار.

كما وُزّعت على الحضور هدية رمزية تضم عبوة ماء ووردة، في بادرة تستحضر مبادرات غياث مطر السلمية في بدايات الثورة السورية في مواجهة آلة القتل الأسديّة.

جاءت مساهمة المنظمات الشريكة، تأكيدًا على أهمية حفظ الذاكرة السورية، وتوثيق قصص الضحايا، والدفاع عن سردية الثورة وقيمها في الحرية والكرامة والسلمية.
