from the State Sponsors of Terrorism List
The Syrian British Consortium welcomes the official removal of Syria from the United States’ list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, and considers this an important development in the process of ending the isolation imposed on the country for decades as a result of the policies of the Assad regime.

The significance of this decision goes beyond the removal of a legal designation. It helps create a more open environment for renewed engagement with Syrian state institutions, expands opportunities for economic and diplomatic cooperation, and eases restrictions that have hindered Syrians from reconnecting their country with the wider world.

We hope this step will encourage other countries and international institutions to review policies and measures that no longer reflect Syria’s current reality, while at the same time preserving accountability mechanisms for individuals and entities involved in terrorism, war crimes, and serious violations committed by the former regime.

يرحّب المجلس السوري البريطاني برفع اسم سوريا رسمياً من قائمة الولايات المتحدة للدول الراعية للإرهاب في خطوة تُمثل تطوراً مهماً في مسار إنهاء العزلة التي فُرضت على البلاد طوال عقود بسبب سياسات نظام الأسد.

وتكمن أهمية القرار في أنه لا يقتصر على رفع تصنيف قانوني، بل يهيئ لبيئة أكثر انفتاحاً أمام عودة التعامل مع مؤسسات الدولة السورية، وتوسيع فرص التعاون الاقتصادي والدبلوماسي، وتخفيف القيود التي أعاقت السوريين عن إعادة وصل بلادهم بالعالم.

ويأمل المجلس أن تشجع هذه الخطوة دولاً ومؤسسات دولية أخرى على مراجعة السياسات والإجراءات التي لم تعد تنسجم مع الواقع السوري الراهن، مع الحفاظ في الوقت نفسه على مسارات المساءلة بحق الأفراد والجهات المتورطة في الإرهاب وجرائم الحرب والانتهاكات الجسيمة التي ارتكبها النظام البائد.
