The Syrian British Consortium Welcomes the U.S. Decision to Lift Sanctions on Syria
The Syrian British Consortium (SBC) warmly welcomes the decision announced by U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to lift American sanctions imposed on Syria.
These sanctions were initially enacted as part of international efforts to protect Syrian civilians and pressure the repressive regime in Damascus. Over the years, they contributed to limiting the regime’s capacity for further abuse. Today, their removal marks a pivotal shift — one that reflects the international community’s commitment to Syria’s recovery and empowers Syrians to shape a modern, democratic, and pluralistic nation.
The SBC extends its sincere appreciation to the countries that have long stood by the Syrian people and played a key role in supporting this decision, particularly Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye, as well as the constructive engagement of other countries, including the United Kingdom. This moment would not have been possible without their steadfast support and shared belief in a better future for Syria.
Over the past years, the Syrian British Consortium has remained unwavering in its advocacy for the Syrian cause, working to ensure that Syria remains a priority on the agendas of international policymakers. Today, we celebrate this important milestone alongside Syrians everywhere, a step that brings us closer to building a future of peace and stability for Syria and the wider Middle East.
While lifting the sanctions is a foundational step toward rebuilding a new Syria, one rooted in justice, dignity, and unity, we call on the UK government to seize this pivotal moment and assume the leadership role it has historically played. This includes facilitating investment, trade, and academic exchange, and supporting all efforts aimed at easing restrictions and opening not only diplomatic channels, but also pathways for economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and long-term reconstruction.

يرحّب بقرار الولايات المتحدة رفع العقوبات عن سوريا
يرحب المجلس السوري البريطاني بالقرار الذي أعلنه رئيس الولايات المتحدة، دونالد ترامب، خلال زيارته إلى المملكة العربية السعودية، والذي قضى برفع العقوبات الأمريكية المفروضة على سوريا
كانت هذه العقوبات قد فُرضت في إطار الجهود الدولية الرامية إلى حماية المدنيين السوريين والضغط على النظام القمعي في دمشق. وعلى مرّ السنوات، ساهمت هذه العقوبات في الحد من قدرة النظام على ارتكاب المزيد من الانتهاكات. واليوم، يُشكّل رفعها تحوّلًا جوهريًا يعكس التزام المجتمع الدولي بدعم تعافي سوريا، ويمنح السوريين القوة لتشكيل وطن حديث، ديمقراطي وتعددي
يتقدم المجلس السوري البريطاني بالشكر والامتنان للدول التي لطالما وقفت إلى جانب الشعب السوري، وكان لها دور محوري في دعم هذا القرار، وعلى وجه الخصوص المملكة العربية السعودية، وقطر، وتركيا, وكذلك التفاعل البنّاء من قبل دول أخرى، بما فيها المملكة المتحدة. إن هذا الإنجاز ما كان ليتحقق لولا دعمهم الثابت وإيمانهم المشترك بمستقبل أفضل لسوريا
لم يتوانَ المجلس على مدار السنوات الماضية في الدفاع عن القضية ، السورية، ساعيًا إلى إبقائها ضمن أولويات صانعي القرار الدوليين،وهو يحتفل اليوم مع جميع السوريات والسوريين بهذه الخطوة المهمة، التي تقرّبنا من بناء مستقبل يسوده السلام والاستقرار في سوريا والمنطقة الأوسع في الشرق الأوسط
وبينما يُعدّ رفع العقوبات خطوة أساسية نحو إعادة بناء سوريا جديدة، تسودها العدالة والكرامة والوحدة، فإننا ندعو الحكومة في المملكة المتحدة إلى اغتنام هذه اللحظة الحاسمة وتولي الدور القيادي الذي لطالما اضطلعت به تاريخيًا للمساهمة في الوصول الى سوريا الآمنة والمستقرة. ويشمل ذلك تسهيل الاستثمارات، والتجارة، والتبادل الأكاديمي، ودعم كافة الجهود الرامية إلى تخفيف القيود وفتح قنوات ليس فقط دبلوماسية، بل أيضًا اقتصاديّة وثقافيّة، تمهيدًا لإعادة الإعمار على المدى الطويل
