Syria is Free from Assad
On a historic and unforgettable day, Syria was liberated on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from the grip of the oppressive regime, coinciding with Bashar al-Assad’s escape to Russia. This day marks a monumental victory for the Syrian people, who endured a long struggle for freedom and dignity, sacrificing countless lives in pursuit of this noble goal.
Today, we celebrate a major step towards building a free, democratic, and civil state founded on justice and equality, with hope in the Syrian people’s ability to lead the next phase towards stability and development.
Amidst our joy over this victory, we emphasise the urgent priorities of ensuring safety and security for all, fostering civil peace, and addressing the immediate needs of those who suffered the most. This includes the physical, mental, and social support of detainees upon their release, providing aid to families of the missing and those whose loved ones were confirmed killed, and ensuring access to basic services such as health, housing, and humanitarian aid for displaced individuals whose homes were destroyed.. These sacrifices must remain the beacon that guides the transitional phase and inspires the international community and civil society organizations to actively support recovery and reconstruction efforts.
On this remarkable occasion, the Syrian British Consortium extends its warmest congratulations to the Syrian people, affirming our confidence in a brighter future for all Syrians and our commitment to supporting them in their journey of rebuilding and progress.
